        An odd spot of hope has emerged in, of all places, Tennessee. A special election was held to replace a Republican retiring for the private sector. It was won by the Republican, Mike Van Epps, against Aftyn Behn. What would be an otherwise uninteresting election was made interesting by the narrow margins. In a Republican state, in a district Trump won by 22 points, Van Epps won by 9. In spite of investment by Trump's personal super pac, in spite of personal endorsement and campaigning by Republican speaker Mike Johnson, a deep red part of a deep red state swung by 13 points. This is a sign of the growing blue wave that will wash away this stain on America's history. No matter where you live, keep an eye on your elections. Every seat, no matter where, is in reach, and no matter how small, is worth fighting for. If you can, volunteer your time to the Young Democrats of America or Run For Something, both groups that campaign for liberal candidates throughout America. The moment is in our hand, and we must grasp it strongly.

        In less recent but similarly hopeful news, a November 30th raid by ICE was held at bay by protesters who gathered minutes after news of the raid was posted. While ICE is sure to try again, the speed and force Americans gathered with shows how committed Americans are to liberty and how effective we can be when determined. ICEmap and StopICE.net are two online pages determined to track ICE and it's illegal conduct. If you can, contribute to it or spread awareness of it to those who can or those who need it. If you happen to live in California, a new portal has been established by Governor Newsom to report abuses by ICE. And, as always, spread information on the rights of migrants. The tarjetas rojas provide a summary of these rights that can fit into a person's hand, and AOC's Know Your Rights website provides more thorough information. Every resource that can be provided to migrants is an important one.

        As we enter a new year, it's important to maintain momentum. We need to give the discontent and outrage with the Trump regime direction and purpose. As 2026 dawns, we must prepare for what may be the most consequential midterms of American history and prepare to be there for every event, every rally, every election, no matter how minor it may seem. 50501 provides information on where to find protests and how to keep yourself safe while there, as well as how to organize resistance of your own.
