After the recent revelations about the Democratic candidate for Maine's senate seat, a herculean effort was drag that snake Platner out of the nomination. It has succeeded, and the Maine Democratic Party is set to hold a special election to replace him. With this, the difference between Democrats and Republicans is made clear. Democrats found out Platner was a rapist- and dragged him out of the nominee’s spot. Republicans found out Paxton was corrupt, had made sweetheart deals with rapists as AG, and had been divorced on “biblical grounds”- and made him their nominee.

Regardless of the moral victory, it must be followed with a political victory. The need to oust Platner was equal to the need to oust Collins, and it must be done just the same. There are a variety of candidates in Maine who have stepped forward, chief among them being Troy Jackson. A lifelong progressive who's nonetheless won state level elections in rural northern Maine, polls show him beating the incumbent Collins. The convention to replace Platner will be held on the 25th. If you live in Maine, your support for this man is crucial- you can volunteer for his campaign or vote for delegates who will determine who the party's nominee will be.

Meanwhile, the fight for political change needs to continue across the country. The Black Power War Room, organized by groups like the NAACP, is working to monitor and fight efforts to suppress the black vote on a state level. It is organizing protests and state level lobbying against these racist attacks on democracy. Rock the Vote provides guides on how to register to vote in every state, while The States Project works to get Democrats elected on a state level, which the recent redistricting battle has proven is crucial. We are working not just towards a victory in the fight for the White House, not just a victory in the fight for a few swing states, but a victory in the fight for America.

        God bless America.
